FLOCK Browser - Based on Firefox

+ All Extensions!

  • A browser based on the open source browser Firefox, called Flock, has just been released and claims to give a taste of what life would be like under Web 2.
  • The browser was developed in California by a small team spearheaded by Bart Decrem, who is known for his failed attempts in the Linux field and being a big cheese in the Mozzarella Foundation.
  • Flock claims to integrate next-generation Web technologies such as RSS content feeds, blogs and bookmark and photo sharing.
  • The preview, or V0.5, can do a lot of things that Fireferret can't. It has a lot of automated controls and there is no need to move your favourite sites into folders to manage and manage them. You can also add tags to favorites at the touch of a button.
  • Flock comes with a built in open source search engine, called Clucene. When you visit a webpage indexes all the content on that page so you can find it later. It can be wiped when you are finished so that you still have some privacy. You can have multiple favorites toolbars and switch between them.
  • One of the features is it has its own blog editor that works with WordPress, Movable Type and Typepad and Blogger. It also makes it easier to put pictures into a blog by dragging and dropping them into the post. There is even a scrapbook to store web content that you want to blog about later.
  • It comes with a built-in RSS reader, which allows a user to read all of their favourite blogs in one place, without the need to separately navigate to each one. Various Web sites and software programs already provide this functionality, but Flock is one of the first to integrate it into a Web browser.
Addons
  • Zotero
is an easy-to-use yet powerful research tool that helps you gather, organize, and analyze sources (citations, full texts, web pages, images, and other objects), and lets you share the results of your research in a variety of ways. Zotero includes the best parts of older reference manager software (like EndNote)—the ability to store author, title, and publication fields and to export that information as formatted references—and the best parts of modern software and web applications (like iTunes and del.icio.us), such as the ability to interact, tag, and search in advanced ways. Zotero integrates tightly with online resources; it can sense when users are viewing a book, article, or other object on the web, and—on many major research and library sites—find and automatically save the full reference information for the item in the correct fields. Since it lives in the web browser, it can effortlessly transmit information to, and receive information from, other web services and applications; since it runs on one's personal computer, it can also communicate with software running there (such as Microsoft Word).

    KeyScrambler Personal
  • encrypts your keystrokes at the kernel driver level to protect your login information from keyloggers.
When you type on your keyboard, the keys travel along a path within the operating system before it arrives at your browser. Keyloggers plant themselves along this path and observe and record your keystrokes. The collected information is then sent to the criminals who will use it to steal from you.
KeyScrambler defeats keyloggers by encrypting your keystrokes at the keyboard driver level, deep within the operating system. When the encrypted keystrokes reach your browser, KeyScrambler then decrypts them so you see exactly the keys you've typed. Keyloggers can only record the encrypted keys, which are completely indecipherable.
Unlike anti-virus and anti-spyware programs that depend on recognition to remove keyloggers that they know about, KeyScrambler will protect you from both known and unknown keyloggers. What's more, KeyScrambler provides protection without getting in your way. You don't have anything to learn about the program and you don't have to do anything differently, but with KeyScrambler your important personal information will be a whole lot safer.

    Flockstars
    Version: 0.4.3
The Flockstars extension allows you to view a personalised 'Flockstars Profile Badge' - this is a slightly altered spread flock button which stores the web services you use.
    Get yours here.
Other flock users with this extension can discover and view those services - Flickr/Photobucket photos open in the photostream mediabar, youtube videos open in the mediabar, all other services open in a new tab. Non-flock users just see the normal Flock spread button.

    Twitterbar
    Version: 0.0.6
PLEASE NOTE: As twitter is now baked into Flock 1.0, this extension is no longer under development or maintainence.
Twitterbar allows you to post from your browsers addressbar. One major difference between some of the other Twitter extensions is that it is NOT fired off to twitter at the hit of the return/enter key and therefore does not reveal all your browsing secrets.
Three ways to post using twitterbar:
    1) Type your tweet, then click on the small green grey add icon which is to be found on the right of your addressbar (when you mouse over the icon, it enlarges and tells you how many charaters you have left)
    2) Type ‘ –post’ at the end of your tweet (that is space+hyphen+hyphen+post). The ‘ –post’ is not included in your tweet.
    3) Drag in the twitterbar toolbar button anywhere you want (main toolbar -> right-click -> customize).
    Other:
    - You can also just hit the green grey icon to send the current webpage url as a tweet - it will add ‘Currently Browsing: ‘ to the front of the url.
    - There is an optional toolbar button counter to drag on from the customise dialog.

    Screenshot
    Version: 0.0.3
Based on the excellent firefox Screengrab from Andy Mutton, this Flock extension allows you to save webpages (entire, visible portion, selection) and windows (eg. browser, blog, uploader) as png or jpg images. You can save these images to your file system, the clipboard or even send them straight to the photo uploader.
